Helsinki, Finland (Day 9 at Sea)

I admit we were pretty tired after our two incredible days in Saint Petersburg.  After a good night sleep, we woke up around 6 and got ready for another day of adventure, this time in the capital of Finland, Helsinki!

The only thing I knew about Helsinki was from the Jim Jarmusch film Night on Earth.   What Alice and I discovered was a gorgeous city with lots of charm and character.

With our ship docked several miles away from the city center, we took a shuttle bus that dropped us off about two blocks from Market Square.

One of the mains attractions is the beautiful Lutheran Cathedral on top of Senate Square.  Like so many of our mornings during our trip, we had blue sky and cold weather.

From Senate Square, we walked through the city center, past the train station, on our way to Temppeliaukio Church, aka Church of the rock.

30 minutes later, we arrived at this incredible place.  There's no other church quite like it.  It looks more like a spaceship from the outside.

The inside of Rock Church is so beautiful.

Our our way back, we were starting to get hungry...

...so we grabbed some lunch at the harbor...

Yum!
Alice bought a cute t-shirt here

Our ship was leaving for Stockholm at 3:30, so we had to head back.  Instead of high tea, we went for ice cream for dessert.

We kind of overdid things, but that's what cruising is all about.

Later, we had our final formal night with our table.
