Day 1959

Friday, May 25, 2018

One down.  One to go.

A good day for justice.  It was weird seeing his perp walk...weird but satisfying.

What a monster.  That he was allowed to do what he did for so many decades sort of puts in perspective the cowardice of enablers and the power of the those at the top.  He may go down as the defining story of late-twentieth century Hollywood.  He was so good at what he did, but what he did first and foremost served his predatory impulses.  Unbelievable.  Fiction can't compete with this.  Nothing can.

Day 1958

Thursday, May 24, 2018

Work was quiet after such a busy few days, and coming home I took care of a few things and went to bed early.

Day 1957

Wednesday, May 23, 2018

Wrapped up the PowerPoint and with that behind me, I was back on track with my other duties at work.  Rehearsal went well and once I was home I went right to bed.

Day 1956

Tuesday, May 22, 2018

Super busy day today...all PowerPoint...85 slides by tomorrow.  I woke up at 4:30, started working at 5, caught the casual carpool at 6:45, then worked from 7:20 until 4:50 with few breaks.  I came home and continued work, but did manage to take a break to meet up with Rhonda and Biff at their favorite hangout on Lakeshore Ave., the Cat House.

I had a delicious Cosmopolitan.  It was so good!  We chatted for an hour or so, then I ran into this guy who was picking up dinner at Mijori, so naturally I had to walk with him and get caught up on all things Young.

with Richard Young

Day 1955

Monday, May 21, 2018

I had a complicated job to take care of in the morning, then a very long PowerPoint job due Wednesday morning.  I had to check out a laptop computer to take home with me because the slides will take time to create.  Busy busy day today.

Day 1954

Sunday, May 20, 2018

At Alice's for the day, practicing, resting.  Alice's new bed is too soft for her, so she's getting another one next week.  Good timing as Memorial Day always has sales.

Day 1953

Saturday, May 19, 2018

Attended Lillian's mom's funeral today in Alameda.  Very nice service and repast.

Murry joined me.  Afterward, I rested a bit at home and actually fell asleep, so leaving for Alice's tomorrow morning.

Day 1952

Friday, May 18, 2018

Enjoying reading this book, a memoir of the 70s:

Lots of wonderful details and a typical 1970s childhood.  I can relate to everything in this book!

Day 1951

Thursday, May 17, 2018

I've come to love Thursdays because it usually means I can sleep in until 6:30 a.m. and I don't have anything after work, so I can rest a bit.

Day 1950

Wednesday, May 16, 2018

A full day of work, then a full hour of practice until rehearsal at 7:30 . My standpartner was gone so I played by myself, which was fine by me . We're playing the Bernstein really fast so I'm going to have to work on things in the next two weeks.  Home at 10:10 and immediately off to bed.

Day 1949

Tuesday, May 15, 2018

Tonight I met Kathryn Kim for dinner.  We hung out near her hotel on Post St.  I didn't get home until 9:45 so no practicing.  I miss my Wu.

Day 1948

Monday, May 14, 2018

Up at 2:50 and out the door at 3:05 a.m.  Easy drive to Sea-Tac where I filled up the car with gas, dropped off the rental, then arrived at the airport ready to go.  Flight was uneventful (read mostly).  Arrived at Oakland, took BART to took and made it to my desk a few minutes late.  Not bad.  Work was slow (nice).  I met Ron Craswell for dinner and we went to La Mar on the Embarcadero.  Very good Peruvian food.  I arrived home at 9:20, practiced for 30 minutes, then hit the hay.  What a long day.

Day 1947

Sunday, May 13, 2018

Up at 9.  I stayed in my sweat pants most of the day.  We made Mother's Day Belgium Waffles, eggs, bacon, fruit, and Red Rose tea.

Day 1946

Saturday, May 12, 2018

I got up early and began prepping for the party, making a yummy fruit salad, preparing the pulled pork, cleaning, and getting endless small things ready.  Uncle Chris and Elizabeth arrived around 10 to help with the prep work.

Susan made it early and gave us 30 minutes or so to catch up.  It's always such a treat catching up with her.  Maddie's going to Johns Hopkins next fall.  She's a Dragon Millennial.

Ron & Jeni and Neal & Karin made it later on.  It was like a mini version of the wedding cruise in September.  No time for games but lots of time for eating!

The party ended around 4:30 and we (family) hung out, eating when we were hungry and playing more Liars Dice.  We played until midnight!

Day 1945

Friday, May 11, 2018

We had a big breakfast, then got Hailey and Hank ready for our afternoon expedition to Costco and Fred Meyer.  We met Tristan at the Costco parking lot and loaded up the cart with party supplies for tomorrow's "Welcome to the World" party for Hank.

After Costco, we went to Taco Time for lunch.

Fred Meyer was our final stop, then we headed home for dinner and games the rest of the night.  Liars Dice ended up being the surprise hit of the weekend.  We played until 12:45.  Dinner was delicious.  Great times with Nicole & her family, mom and Tristan!

Day 1944

Thursday, May 10, 2018

Work, then flying out from Oakland to Seattle for the weekend.  Met mom at baggage, picked up the rental car, had a quick bite at Denny's, then drove to Snohomish, arriving at Nicole & Mike's at 11:40.  We stayed up another hour or so before going to bed.  So great hanging out with mom and staying the weekend at Nicole's!  Tomorrow, Tristan joins us.

Day 1943

Wednesday, May 9, 2018

Slow day at work, which gave me time to catch up on a few training projects I'm working on.  Rehearsal tonight.  The days are getting warmer.

Packed for my trip to Nicole's tomorrow.  I'll meet mom and the airport and we'll drive to Snohomish.

Day 1942

Tuesday, May 7, 2018

Up at 5:40 to watch a little Morning Joe before my morning shower.  I made oatmeal, tidied up a bit, then headed to work at 7:35.  I read a pretty amusing George Sanders short story about a department supervisor who writes a memo to staff re being positive.

At lunch I met Alice in City Hall for an Airbnb SF Made event and pop-up. Several SF craft vendors were selling their wares inside City Hall in a large room near the dome.  I’d never been inside SF City Hall before.  It’s a beautiful Beaux-Arts building.  I saw three brides in wedding dresses underneath the dome.  Alice and I had a quick bite to eat in the café downstairs.

At home, I practiced, then took it easy the rest of the evening.

Day 1941

Monday, May 7, 2018

Racquetball at 5:05 a.m. after leaving Alice’s at 4.  Some fun games.  Kirk and Glenn were on!  I worked on my serves.

Day 1940

Day 1939

Saturday, May 5, 2018

An evening at the symphony tonight.  We went to Max’s Opera Café, which is where we love to go before the concert.  We order the calamari appetizer (which is the best anywhere!) and split the prime rib dinner.  Max’s is fun.  Tonight we sat in back of the orchestra in Center Terrace.  I’d never sat there before but I have to say I love it.  Great seats and I hear so many sections more clearly.

Ray Chen played the Brahams and I thought he was magnificent.  I didn't hear one off note.  Amazing.  At intermission, he was signing programs and taking selfies.  There was a line down the entire aisle.  Nice to see!

The second half of the program featured Prokofiev's 3rd Symphony.  I wasn't familiar with this piece.  I liked it, especially the third movement.  Very modern.
