Day - 794

Saturday, October 23, 2021

Up early, flowers for Alice for her bday coming up on Tuesday, then a day of tidying up in preparation for Patrick and Soren's visit for dinner.

Put together a little appetizer plate from the Harry & David stuff mom got me.

Alice broiled lamb chops...so good!  Wow!

A big storm is coming tonight, so Patrick and Soren left soon after dinner. No time for mahjong.

More IPD document production at work. Finally finished around 3.

My third night at the Oaks and up $214 for the session. A fun table with a maniac and several beginners. Lots of bluffing going on. Good times tonight. Played until 11:30 p.m.

Day - 797

 Wednesday, October 20, 2021

Very good Wednesday morning meeting to get the day going. Work was all right, not too bad, though the IPD document stuff is getting busy.

Went to the Oaks again and had another net positive session, +$530. Against a table full of regs, I check-called a lot and that worked out for me tonight with top pair hands and hands out of position. If I check, my opp will bet. So my checking range is stronger than it would otherwise be. They haven't figured that out yet.

Day - 796

Thursday, October 21, 2021

Plowing through Jonathan Little's updated tournament poker book before leaving for Vegas. So much info here.

Family Petty Zoom tonight so no Oaks action. Leo had a bit of a setback last week, but looked good tonight. These Zooms are so enjoyable, especially with all the oldies present.

Day - 798

Tuesday, October 19, 2021

In the SF office today. Still a ghost town. And the Financial District is a shell of its form self. Yeah, I don't see normal life pre-Covid ever coming back. Whatever the future looks like, it will be completely different from what life once was.

Lillian and I went to the Ferry Building for lunch and grabbed burgers at Gott's. So good!

After work, I hit the Oaks for 4 hours and made $376, breaking a downswing that had lasted several weeks. I pulled off a nice triple barrel bluff with 47off on a K35 board. Nothing came on any street, but I had position. I bet the flop, turn and $90 on the river against two villains to take down a +$140 pot. I took two yellow chips off a $100 stack and stuck the $90 in as if it were a value bet. Worked like a charm. I'll have to incorporate that more into my game. It's what I need to work on, bluffing more.

Day - 799

 Monday, October 18, 2021

Going into the SF office tomorrow.  Seeing who will be in. Lillian and I will go together. No time for reading today, unfortunately. The books keep piling up.

Day - 800

Sunday, October 17, 2021

Had a Zoom meeting in the morning with Jim Benedict and other family members on my dad's side.  There's a trip to Ireland happening in June and Alice and I may come along.  I've never been to Ireland before. This would be a good opportunity to go.  My great-great-grandfather Alexander Acheson had two other brothers, Weir and Samuel, who lived in different parts of the world (Canada, Ireland and California).  Descendents from Weir and Samuel's family put this trip to Ireland together. I think this would make for a magnificent trip.

We met with Alice's bicycle gang for lunch at a restaurant on Grant Ave. Lunch was great. These friends of Alice's are so much fun. Two couples now live in Rossmoor, Chester & Rose and May & Britton. Alice wants to look at the possibility of getting a place at Rossmoor. I like the idea of being part of an active community. We have time to explore that.

After lunch, we visited Kelvin's new night club called the Lion's Den.

Came home after lunch and relaxed the rest of the day.

Day - 807

Sunday, October 10, 2021

Haircut in the a.m., followed by a quick pickup at Home Depot (two garden hose nozzles for Alice), then chicken detail. The love running around in their coop during the day.

We had lunch and later on watched the Blue Angels do their thing.

Dinner was at Lake Chalet with Alice, Austin and Hannah. What a great place to dine out.

Day - 808

Saturday, October 9, 2021

Austin's birthday!

Blue Angels in town. Alice had friends over for lunch while I read and cleared emails. In the evening we had Indian food for dinner from a picnic Austin had for his friends. Sunny, quiet day with the chickens enjoying the afternoon in the coop.

Day - 812

Tuesday, October 5, 2021

Poker with Howard, his brother Michael, and Dorian.  Drove with Howard in his new Tesla. Wow, what a car. It's like driving an iPod. So high tech.

D and I played no limit while the Varinsky brothers played limit poker. They like it!  We had a good time.  I played at a pretty easy table with little pushback.

Afterward, we had sushi across the street.

Day - 813

Monday, October 4, 2021

Stock market grumblings. Still following China and Evergrande. Oil prices climbing and at some point the Fed will need to raise interest rates. Once we're there, lots of bubbles will begin to pop. We'll see how it all plays out.

Alice's chickens have been playing in their coop during the day. Another week or so and they'll be in the coop fulltime.

Day - 814

Sunday, October 3, 2021

This was the first time ever that I watched football while also watching three baseball games: Giants/Dodgers and Mariners. At least the Giants won and clinched their division. Unfortunately, the Mariners lost and are out of the pennant race.

Seahawks remembered how to win games in the second half and took care of the 49ers, which was nice to see.

But for the next week or so it's all about the Giants!  I'll root for them hard.

Day - 815

Saturday, October 2, 2021

Went to the Cal WSU game with Cappy today and watched my Cougs totally take care of business. Final score: 21-6. Nice!  It had been years since I was in Berkeley. The parking situation on game day is crazy. We ended up parking in the Elmwood District and walking to the stadium. Great day for a game...low 80s with a slight breeze.
