I read, watched two movies (The Upside and Glass...The Upside was good, Glass so so). The flight was fairly easy, though I didn’t sleep at all. I never sleep on flights.
We touched down around 4:10 pm.
Customs was a breeze. We checked the Warriors score while in line and were delighted to learn they had won and swept the series. After customs we went to the JR office for our rail passes. We activated our passes, bought our return train tickets from Kobe to Narita Terminal 1 two weeks from now, and also served our seats for the JR Express train from Narita to Tokyo, which we hopped onto 45 minutes later.
We arrived in Shinjuku around 8:30 p.m. took a little time getting oriented to the station (largest train station in the world with more than 200 exits), but once outside, we finally figured out the proper direction to our Keio Plaza hotel. We checked into our room around 9ish.
Unfortunately, were given a smoking room and where were no other non-smoking rooms we could switch to until the following night. Alice did not like that, but we dealt with it by blowing air through the air conditioning unit. Once we dropped our bags in our room, we headed out for dinner at one of Alice's favorite dipping noodle spots.
Funjii's is super popular. Alice had been there before and though it took ten minutes or so finding the right alley to the restaurant and finding a long line out the door when we arrived, we did reach the line in time to eat before they closed. In fact, we were the final customers of the evening. The line moved quickly, taking about 30 minutes before we were seated. It was clearly worth the wait.
A few videos mention this as the best place for dipping noodles in Tokyo. It was really good!
After dinner, we headed back to our room and went right to sleep.
