Saint Petersburg, Russia - Day 2 (Day 8 at Sea)
It was a special day to be in Saint Petersburg, for the city and the country were celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe over the Nazis.
Unlike the gray, drizzly rain of yesterday, today was clear and beautiful, a perfect day for a parade.
With so much going on in the city, our activities included sights outside Saint Petersburg, but first a canal ride along the River Neva.
Maria provided excellent commentary on our canal ride |
Military hardware lined the side streets in preparation for the big parade |
After our canal ride, we took the subway part of the way to Peterhof Palace. The subway stations in Saint Petersburg are as stunning and beautiful as the subway stations in Moscow.
One coin, about $.50 for the metro. Not bad! |
Drop the coin in the machine and go! |
Going down... |
...and down! |
All aboard! |
Every station is a work of art. |
Abtobo Station |
We rejoined our bus driver Alexi and headed to Peterhof Palace and the amazing water fountains, known as the Russian Versailles.
With our tour guide |
After an hour at this incredible palace and garden, we boarded our bus for a tour of Tsarskoye (Czars Village), then had lunch at a local hotel in the area.
The soup was good! |
And so was the Vodka! |
The entree was delicious. |
After lunch, we visited our final destination of the day, Catherine's Palace. Wow. It was incredible inside.

With our tour complete, we headed back to our ship and said goodbye to our lovely tour guide Maria and able driver Alexi. Saint Petersburg is a city we'll definitely visit again. We loved everything about our two days here!
