Day 838 - Copenhagen

Copenhagen, Denmark

I began my day with a jog, swim, and jacuzzi.  Adina Hotel has one of the nicest indoor pools I've ever seen.

We began our day at the Lagkagehuset bakery with lattes and goodies.  It had quickly become our morning tradition!

After breakfast, we headed to the train station for a few hours of sightseeing before taking the train to Helsingor.  It was the perfect time to do some GoBiking.

After signing up online and punching in a password, we picked up two bikes at Osterport Station and rode down Oster Voldgade to H. C. Andersens Blvd., then across to Nyhavn where we walked around and took pictures for 30 minutes.

Alice loved the electric push the bike provided

And so did I!

Happy in Nyhavn

We rode for two hours.  The GoBike was electric and had four different gears to aid in pedaling.  There was an ipad attached to the handlebars for navigation, etc.  It was pretty sweet!

We parked our bikes at Copenhagen Central Station and grabbed a couple of traditional Danish hotdogs for lunch.

So many choices

Ristet polse with the works
And for dessert, the rest of my breakfast!

I must be part Danish I love these things so much!

Good to the last bite!
We took the train from Copenhagen to Helsingor, a 45-minute trip north.

On the train to Helsingor

Built in the late-16th Century by Danish King Frederick II, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its picturesque beauty and magnificence as a quintessential renaissance castle.  Apparently, Shakespeare visited with an acting troupe and the place inspired him to write Hamlet.

Spectacular!

We spent about 90 minutes at the castle, then had lunch just outside the train station before heading back to Copenhagen.

Back in Copenhagen, he visited one more museum, one of my favorites, the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek.  Back in 1985, I visited this museum regularly and attended many chamber concerts on Sundays.  It's still as stunning and beautiful as ever.
