Woke up early to tidy up the place for later tonight when Richard, Lisa, Miles, Soph and Maddy come over to watch Godfather 2. Work was reasonably quiet today, which was nice, so after work I ordered Yang Chow and once everyone arrived at 7:30, we set to work on 3 hours and 21 minutes of GF2ness.
Like the first, this one holds up, though I'd love to see the full 6-hour version what was originally cut before half the film was snipped to the floor. This story is so sweeping, powerful, cold and heartless. There's very little humor in this film, unlike the first, and so much of it is shot in dark light. But it sure is stunning.
The scene on the lake with Fredo always gets me. John Cazale was something. I stayed up until midnight, which meant a very blurry morning the next day.
