Tonight was my second rehearsal playing with the Oakland Civic Orchestra. Most of the members are regular musicians who sound very good, and the conductor Marty is fantastic. Finding enough time to practice and learn my part will be the biggest challenge. We're playing Mahler's 4th Symphony and the Hansel and Gretel Overture by Engelbert Humperdinck. Both pieces have a few tricky passages that will take me weeks to learn. But I'm getting there. Tonight's rehearsal went well, but by 9:45 I'm really exhausted. At any rate, it's wonderful to be back in an orchestra again after so many years.
